Let’s get into it.

Conflict In Ukraine. Donation and Adoption. The war has already boosted demand for crypto, as sanction resistance for Russia and fundraiser (leveraging DeFi) for Ukraine. This week alone, Ukraine crypto fund raised $50M to finance ongoing war operations, with the first $15m already been spent on military supplies. Earlier this week, the government announced that there would be an airdrop sent out to all participants in the fundraiser, causing a quick spike in donations. However, the airdrop was canceled and an NFT sale is now scheduled. The power of borderless, permissionless transfer of value is in full effect. A GOOD CAUSE RUG 🇺🇦

This Social Club Runs on Crypto Tokens and Vibes. FWB with another mainstream media piece, this time in the New York Times. The token saw a huge spike in price this week following the attention, but the “V.I.P. lounge” framing definitely paints some very exclusive vibes. FWB member Laura Jaramillo is quoted in the piece saying, "We’re on the ground floor of what could be the beginning of everything." FF CO-SIGN 🔏

The Lore Zone: How to Read the Internet. The internet is fundamentally different than any medium that has come before it, and thus requires new ways of thinking about how it affects us, and how we interact with it. This piece from the Other Internet squad asks: how should we read the internet? Lore on the internet is inherently decentralized, fractionalized across communities and contexts. Reading the internet requires a re-contextualization, piecing together the seemingly disparate parts into something that is relevant to your own read. FANTASTIC PIECE 🔥

Modern Corporations Are Ungovernable, But DAOs Are Not The Answer. This interview with Roger Martin is a great fix if you feel like you’re in a DAO bubble. The corporate strategist and advisor explores the problems with modern corporations, but when the topic of DAOs arises, he proclaims it to be "a phenomenally dumb idea," a hammer looking for a nail. At the same time, his explanation of why public traded companies are not governable seems to beg for a DAO-like solution. It will be very interesting to see how traditional corporate executives embrace or reject DAOs, which have the ability to fundamentally change their way of life, arguably even more so than NFTs. SPICY & BIASED TAKE ⚡️

Web3 Threatens to Segregate Our Online Lives. This piece highlights some of the key stories in the web3 community over the last month, including Bradley from ENS. The author raises the question of whether community governance, as demonstrated by DAOs, can work the same way for social media where everyone (quite literally) has an opinion. As opinions scale, it is much more difficult to moderate large amounts of people. The author argues that this could cause a "segregation of online life." FAIR... 👀

Musings on Governance. Reverie advises DAOs, helping with governance and legal across a variety of communities. In this piece, Larry Sukernik, one of the founders, lists some of the key learnings on DAO governance from some of their work thus far. These include: contributors can have outside agendas, a treasury is not a hedge fund, and openness does not always lead to quality. While some of these takes are definitely debatable, the insight is much needed in a space where "case studies" are hard to come by. GREAT DIVE 🌊

Shl0ms blew up lamborghini & $CAR NFT Drop. Shl0ms does it again. In a move meant to "oppose crypto greed," the experimental artist with a drop of 999 NFTs representing pieces of a Lamborghini Huracan, purchased for $250k, that was blown up in the middle of a desert. The tokens are called $CAR, and the project has raised over $2M. As NFTs get more and more repetitive, Shl0ms is a breath of fresh air reminding us to experiment and push the boundaries of our assumptions. LEGENDARY 💥
