The Case for Why DAOs Should Register as Legal Entities. "What legal entity (if any) should we use?" is a question plaguing the DAO space. Every single DAO contributor has thought about it at least once. This piece from Mark Lurie makes the case for why DAOs should have legal entities, even if they’re not ideal. There’s still lots to learn, and hopefully regulation catches up to the tech soon. DAOS 🤝 REGULATION

Kickstarter Will Move Its Crowdfunding Platform to Blockchain. Kickstarter has committed to a new product that will enable crypto-driven crowdfunding for projects and products. Once the project is mature, the company says it will merge with its main offering, becoming a fully blockchain-driven company. This is a great example of a web2 company adopting web3 tech. Progressive decentralization next? WEB2 <> WEB3 (DONE RIGHT)

New DAO Buys Ross Ulbricht's Ethereum NFTs to Help Free Him. Ross Ulbricht, the founder of Silk Road, has been in prison since 2013 after being convicted of conspiracy to launder money, computer hacking, narcotics trafficking, and running a criminal enterprise. PleasrDAO raised over $12M to purchase NFTs to fundraise for his release and general prison reform. According to Decrypt, "The ROSS token will act as a governance token in the FreeRossDAO. Holders of ROSS tokens can vote on proposals and contribute to the direction of the DAO." POWERFUL

Decentralized Governance Structures by Joey Santoro. This piece explores different methods and layers of DAO governance, including token governance, optimistic governance (when “a core group of elected actors to enact proposals on behalf of the community”), and security guardian mechanics. Ideally, the three methods should be used in conjunction with one another to serve various purposes throughout the DAO. GREAT INSIGHT

What Can (DAOs) and Platform Cooperatives Learn From Each Other. Collective ownership in tech has a rich history in the platform cooperative movement, launched long before the recent rise of DAOs. This paper explains the ways that DAOs and platform coops can learn from one another, and where research is still necessary to push both spaces forward. This is a great read for those getting into DAOs from non-crypto backgrounds. A PERFECT MATCH 🤝

Punk 4156 bought for 2,500 ETH plus Larvalabs IP Issues. Punk 4156, previously held by the founder of Nouns, was sold for over $10M after its owner expressed disappointment with the way Larva Labs has handled IP rights issues. The sale sparked a larger conversation around whether BAYC and other blue chip NFT projects with more clear guidance around IP will surpass Punks in status in the near future. NICE P(H)UNK

Community Ownership & Compensation Proposal. Index Coop continues to set the bar high with its new compensation frameworks. Compensation ranges based on level and priority of hire, while spanning across staking rewards, airdrops, and token streams over various vesting periods. While slightly complex, the model serves as a gold standard for how DAOs can attract and retain talent in a web3-native way. ANOTHER ONE

Jenil from Coinvise

Coinvise adds support for creating a whitelist on airdrop campaigns. This allows creators to make their own custom claim page with built in eligibility for curated set of community members.

David from MintGate

There were platform improvements this week as well as a new integration update for token gating.
- We had improved wallet connection and overall API performance
- There has been high demand for our integration with Unlock Protocol. Token gate your content with time-restricted locks!
